Michael mentioned that he saw Gorimon when he was younger. Then, on a contrived coincidental timing, Gorimon (controlled by the Dark Spiral) shows up outside the restaurant! Michael has Betamon evolve to Seadramon in order to take on Gorimon. Maybe that's because it's too personal for Michael since Gorimon appeared in New York and it was his childhood monster.

I can't believe that Michael is not blonde anymore. And I know it's him because of Seadramon, and all of those kids here were in 02 worldwide arc NYC part too so it would've been weird if hey just dumped a brand new character here.

Michael's partner Betamon evolves to Seadramon in 02, on-screen, two times (yes, in the NYC part of the three-part mini-arc too) so I know this kid is him.

Also the girl next to him is Maria, her partner, Centalmon, is behind FlareLizardmon (Sam's partner) right there. But idk if her skin is light now or not -- the episode in 02 was at night and her skin wasn't that tanned like Lou's and Daisuke's imo?

Heck, they even slapped Tatum (is that her name, can't remember well?) with Airdramon here...!!

i'm sad Tortomon is not here, but it would be hard to place it there too...

My Commentary: Steve was confirmed by Toei to be a Jew in the “Digimon Memorial Book”, published after 02 had ended. However, It is important to remember that Steve would likely not be celebrating “only” Inter-faith X-mas here (if Steve did join in), but ALSO Hanukkah / Chanukah earlier in the month and previous month. Chanukah in 2002, however, was November 29th ~ December 7th, and these scenes took place closer to December 25th. But that doesn’t mean Steve wouldn’t have noted Chanukah at all earlier that year, and it’s good to note that when we’re discussing 02′s “real-world based” “timeline”!

Tatum was also confirmed to be Irish-American in the Memorial Book. She is partnered to an Airdramon.

Bio :

Michael is the second eldest of the group and the holder of the Crest of reliability . He is a professional surfer with quite a few trophy’s under his belt , he has a little sister called Melany who is partnered with a marine Angemon who he loves dearly and does his best look after the pair .Mike is very laid back but caring and does his best to Try and live up to his crest . He along with Kiara work together to look after the Group and formulate plans and strategies before important fights . He met his partner mako late one night when He heard rustling in his shed after investigating he found a stray betamon trying to use one of his surf boards , Mike was a bit freaked out at first but after figuring the little creature just wanted to learn how to surf he calmed down and offered to teach him .

Mako is very friendly And always willing to play and hang out with the other Digimon ans also has a very close bond with Mike’s little sister caring about her and her partner like they were his siblings too . He has a very big appetite and his favorite way to spend after a long day of surfing and fighting is a big meal . His favorite food is watermelon though he loves his food that doesn’t mean he’s greedy , mako is always willing to share .

Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 14

Another Mimi/Miyako episode. It feels like we just had one of these, but we got more America vibes in this one so that was fun. I was mostly just hype to see that Micheal had Betamon as a partner because he was the cutest digimon in Digimon World. Miyako is...pretty annoying :/ I like her design, so it's a shame.

Digimon introduced: Gorimon, Shurimon

Notes:

-Loved the little intro where they showed a hoppin' American house party. Gave me 90s party movie vibes <3

-It's cool that there's an American faction of digi-destined but weird that they've just been chilling in the background this whole time. Like, did they have their own epic arcs or were they just running around doing side quests while the JP kids took care of the main storyline? I'd like to see a spin-off!

-They randomly decided to rehash the Digitamamon restaurant episode from season 1. I wasn't exactly nostalgic for that one but...okay. Honestly it just gives me PTSD from when I spent literal hours exploiting the Digitamamon glitch in Digimon World.

-It was cool how they flashed back to where the 02 characters were during season 1. I liked seeing their younger designs. I know Miyako was shown in one of the movies but I don't think the others actually appeared anywhere? Maybe I'm wrong...

-The message about sincerity/purity felt pretty forced to me. Miyako earned her purity digimental by being like "yeah I'm a shallow, judgey person sometimes, so WHAT!?" So...pure? Very questionable. I feel like maybe this character trait got lost in translation.

-Enjoyed the Gorimon vs. Seadramon battle because it felt like a King Kong kaiju battle

-Miyako be like

-Shurimon's design is fun. His springy legs remind me of that one chapter from Junji Ito's Uzumaki lol. I do feel he's a little too humanoidy for my taste (I know there's a lot of humanoid digimon, I just prefer when they look like monsters).

-So apparently there's a huge void inside of Digitamamon's egg shell. Did we know that already? Might have been addressed in season 1. Anyways, I like the added mystique. I thought it was clever that the evil spiral was just floating in the void.

-Rolled my eyes when Sukamon randomly showed up at the end there for a recycled gag. So unnecessary...

-Funny how in the dub they made Michael ask Miyako for a date when that didn't happen in the OG. I guess they wanted some more spice at the end there, but I feel like messing with ships is serious business!

Y'know i will write down my headcanons for lines for the characters i like. Some might come from games, some just me imagining possible ideas not featured anywhere before. Bear with Ni.

Daisuke: V-mon → XV-mon → Wingdramon → UlforceV-dramon

I got this from CSHM actually. Seems a good match. Alternative idea was XV-mon → Grademon → Magnamon, but i don't like it much now… (also i love Ulforce V-dramon a lot…)

Ken: Wormmon → Stingmon → JewelBeemon → BanchoStingmon

This is the line i like the most. Alternative from CSHM: Stingmon → Okuwamon → GranKuwagamon

Miyako: Hawkmon → Aquilamon → Hippogriffomon → Valdurmon

Another possible in CSHM. I like this one, I adopted it from a friend!

Iori: Armadimon → Ankylomon → Groundramon → Cannondramon

This line is not possible in games, but i think it is in tcg but i don't remember now.

Wallace: Terriermon → Gargomon → Rapidmon (perfect) → SaintGalgomon Lopmon → Turuiemon → Antylamon (deva) → Cherubimon (virtue)

I admit i ran out of options for Wallace, so i kept it simple.

Menoa: Morphomon → Hudiemon

I'm imagining a scenario where Menoa could get her back and naturally she becomes Hudiemon. Now for Perfect and Ultimate i have no idea.

Maki: Bakumon → Monochromon → Megadramon → Chaosdramon

I'm stealing it from a friend. Also I suspect Shinkai Sara (from ReArise) was mirroring Maki in terms of role and partner. But I'm changing it to Chaosdramon to make it different from hers.

Daigo: Bearmon → Grizzmon → LoaderLiomon → Baihumon

Another line i'm stealing from ReArise, actually this is one of the ones i suspect was tied with ▽ pt4.

Meiko: Meicoomon → Meicrackmon (normal) → Rasielmon

Idk why but i have the impression this was in the plans but they rewrote the plot so many times it became scrapped. Okay, i'd have liked to see this instead of… that

Michael: Betamon → Seadramon → MegaSeadramon → Plesiomon/GigaSeadramon

Plesiomon one is possible on CSHM game actually. GigaSeadramon idea came from a friend. But i'm putting both because i'm not sure which one to pick.

Catherine: Floramon → Kiwimon → Lilamon → Lotusmon

An alternative route is Kiwimon → Sirenmon, but i'm not sure if i could go with Lotusmon in this one too?

Derek (Dingo): Ganimon → Coelamon → Gusokumon → Neptunemon

idk, i just had a feeling this would work.

Rosa (The little girl from Mexico): Gottsumon → Monochromon → Gogmamon → Blastmon

I like to keep the mineral vibe...

Jun (Daisuke's sister who i love since i was a kid): Pulsemon → Runnermon → Tempomon → LovelyAngemon

Idk i'm sold of the idea of giving Pulsemon to her. Like, if he were a V-mon "cousin" or something lol

Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 16

This episode had a weird vibe. It started off with one of those flash-forward cold opens, which this show typically doesn't do and then the dialogue was just really forced and clunky. Aside from the awkwardness, I was glad to have another Iori/Joe episode and the ocean sequence at the end was majestic.

Digimon introduced: Submarimon

Notes:

-Kind of weird to see MegaSeadramon right after we saw Michael's Seadramon a few episodes back. I know they're not the same digimon, but I could see a little kid getting confused

-Rolling my eyes that they did another MegaSeadramon vs. Ikkakumon fight. Ikkakumon even gives a call back to season one. Why do sequels do this!? "We did it in the first one so we have to do it again. Fanservice!"

-The setting of this one was an interesting change of pace, the kids get trapped in an oil rig in the middle of the ocean. (I think S1 also had an "oh no, we're running out of oxygen!" episode). The theming was on point with all the water digis, including the introduction of Submarimon

-Some really great shots of MegaSeadramon in this that really emphasized his (her? their?) size. Love giant sea monsters <3

-The whole Iori plot was so weird to me. Why was everyone so obsessed with getting Iori to get in the escape pod to the point where they tried to trick him? Also, they completely changed what he was worrying about in the dub vs. the sub. In the dub he's just afraid of being trapped underwater and in the sub he feels bad that he led everyone into a trap. In both the sub and the dub the dialogue kinda made no sense "You just want me to go in the escape pod because I'm the youngest" vs. "You just want me to go in the escape pod because I'm scared!" Huh? Is he guilty and ashamed or mad and paranoid? Kids are volatile I guess...

-So...Iori's grandpa is just always sucking on a tube of jelly huh...how charming.

-"Never ever lie" is a questionable lesson to teach your grandkid. Good thing big bro Joe was around to set Iori straight! I think Iori is a little too young for his grandpa to be like "it's okay that we have no idea where you're going ;D"

-I liked Armadimon's little imagine spot where he pictured himself as a hunky Saint Seiya-esque dude. He's growin' on me dagyaa

-Funny how the kids were so nonchalant about hopping in a giant whale's mouth. Takeru and Hikari know the drill, but you would think the newbies would question it a little bit haha

-Honestly, I think Submarimon might be my favorite armor evolve yet! A mecha-esque digimon!? Genius! So marketable. Think of the toys! Also, everybody loves a good narwhal. The switch from an armadillo to a narwhal is a bit jarring, but I'll get over it.

-MegaSeadramon showing off his evil spiral-less tail to the kids at the end was cute. Sometimes digimon are more charming when they're silent tbh.

-Appreciated the little "moment of wonder" at the end there. Gomamon swimming by on a sea turtle was adorable too.

-Gah! The return of the accursed Bolero de Ravel! (It's a good song but I'm sick of it lol)

I have a couple Digimon for you to review! Tapirmon, Gazimon, Seadramon, and Antylamon. They are my babies and I’d love to hear your opinion on them, good or bad :)

How funny, all of those are great and i love them.

Especially Bakumon (Tapirmon) and Antylamon. Peak cool design there. We need more Bakumon partners! Maki and Sara are great! Oh, i think some unnamed kids in Kizuna had some too...

Antylamon is cool -- both versions -- big bun. Hurricane Touchdown's one was kinda creepy though. Tamers made a friendly yet deathly version which i love him being partnered with Shaochung hehe~~ (maybe Wallace could meet her and her Lopmon... I've seen so many art of Wallace and Jian and their Terriermons, we need one with the Lopmon partners too!!)

Seadramon is Michael's Betamon evolution so i'm glad there's good Seadramon in this franchise (they're usually used for enemy of the week which is a shame)

Gazimon are funny, they were used as Etemon minions in Adventure, but 02 showed some of them being nice and i think there were even kids partnered with some? I think Kizuna also depicted one. Anyway, they get some goth mammal vibe (are they like, canine digimon? idk...)

Anyway, all digimon are cool and beautiful 😤
